A myriad of experiences have come to shape Dr. Greg Jones into the performer he is today. Growing up in south central Los Angeles, Jones' childhood music training included plunking out Motown tunes playing on the radio as a favorite pastime. A natural performer, he tapped-danced with the Eugene Jackson Review and earned a spot in Air Force 'Tops in Blue Tour. He went on to study Speech and Communication at California State University, and Higher Education Leadership at Capella University. He is a full time professor in the discipline of Communication Studies. Currently, either alone or with members of his band, Jones performs in California "about 20 weekends a year, in mountain communities, festivals and private events.
A disciple of the great bassist Marshall Hawkins to whom Jones contributes much musical insight, Jones has worked the Idyllwild Jazz Festival as both musician and master of ceremonies. Jones' most recent successes come as co-writer of a "34 Million Friends" recorded by legendary blues and folk artist Odetta. Jones' first CD, For You, is an offering with a autobiographical theme, and the second CD "Re-rooted" released in 2009.
The Greg Jones Band ® Have recently delighted convention and festival audiences including three performances for the California Bar Association. The rotating cast of band members all have tremendous chemistry, and an ability to impress audiences with both vibe, sound and style.
